What is Public Finance Management System (PFMS) ?

The Public Financial Management System (PFMS) is developed and implemented by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The PFMS is an online software developed to track and manage the funds allocated for various government schemes. It also helps in monitoring spending in real-time and ensures transparency in all the financial transactions. 

Functions of the PFMS : 

1. PFMS focuses on tracking funds released for government schemes and making payments directly to beneficiaries.

2. It digitises government accounts and integrate with state financial systems.

3. It acts like the backbone of the government’s payment system, connecting with banks and validating accounts before making online payments.

4. It facilitates Direct Benefit Transfers, where funds are electronically transferred to beneficiaries.

Currently, PFMS is undergoing a transformation to PFMS 2.0 to improve its performance and scalability which includes enhancements like improving stability and scalability, adopting new technologies like AI and blockchain, ensuring data security and privacy, and enhancing user experience through design thinking.

The PFMS Scholarship 2024, provided by the Public Financial Management System, aims to support students aspiring to excel in renowned colleges and universities.  This  initiative is supported by the central government and it operates in almost every state across the nation. Provision of Rs. 3,000 for books and stationery. Allocation of Rs. 10,000 per student annually for allowance to Principal, Experts, and other incidental charges.
