UGC Net 2024 : Application Form, Eligibility, Syllabus, exam date, Admit card, City Slip
UGC-NET is conducted biannually, in June and December. To regularise the examination cycle, the National Testing Agency (NTA), in consultation with the UGC, is organising UGC NET June 2024 in 83 subjects at selected cities nationwide.
What is UGC-NET ?
The UGC-NET, a test designed to assess the eligibility of Indian nationals for the roles of ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian Universities and Colleges, is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode since December 2018.
UGC-NET 2024 Registration & Apply Online :
1. Apply for Online Registration using own Email Id and Mobile No.
2. Fill in basic information and note down the system-generated Application Number.
3. Fill in the Online Application Form and upload scanned images of:
a. Recent photograph (file size 10Kb – 200Kb) against a white background with 80% face visible.
b. Candidate’s signature (file size: 4kb – 30kb).
4. Pay fee using SBI/CANARA/ICICI/HDFC Bank/Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI and keep proof of fee paid.
5. Submission of Application is considered successful only upon successful transaction/receipt of the prescribed application fee.
6. Final submission of Online Application Form will remain incomplete if Step – 2 and Step-3 are not completed, leading to rejection. No refund of fee once remitted by the candidate.
7. Entire application process of UGC-NET June 2024 is online, including uploading of scanned images, Payment of Fees, and Printing of Confirmation page.
8. Candidates are advised to keep visiting the NTA’s website regularly for updates and check their emails.
9. Candidates must ensure their eligibility and category (if applying under reserved category).
10. NTA will not responsible for any wrong/incorrect information furnished by the candidate.
11. Choice of Examination Centres: Select four cities of choice.
NOTE : The allocation of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or eligibility for Assistant Professorship is contingent upon the combined performance of candidates in Paper-I and Paper-II of UGC-NET. Those who qualify only for Assistant Professors posts are not considered for the JRF award. Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria for Assistant Professor posts are subject to the recruitment regulations of the respective Universities, Colleges, or State Governments.

Admit cards for the UGC NET June 2024 :
a. Admit cards for the UGC NET June 2024 Phase – II exams, scheduled on 23rd, 24rd, 25th, and 26th June 2024 (tentative), will released.
b. The exams will conducted by the National Testing Agency at various centres across the country.
c. Candidates have already been informed about their exam city and date.
d. Shift-wise details are provided in Annexure – I.
e. Candidates can download their Admit Cards from the website ugcnet.nta.nic.in using their Application Number and Date of Birth.
f. It is advised to download the Admit Card along with the undertaking and carefully read the instructions provided.
g. In case of any difficulty in downloading or checking the Examination City Intimation Slip, candidates can contact 011-40759000 or email [email protected].
h. Candidates should regularly check for updates and information.
Eligibility criteria for UGC – NET June 2024 :
1. Qualifying Examination:
a. General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates need at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent from UGC-recognized universities/institutions in various fields.
b. Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/Third gender category candidates require at least 50% marks.
2. Candidates pursuing or awaiting results of their Master’s degree or equivalent can apply provisionally.
3. They must pass their Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (50% for specific categories) within two years from the date of NET result.
4. Third gender category candidates have the same relaxation in fee, age, and eligibility criteria as SC/ST/PwD categories.
5. Ph.D. degree holders completing their Master’s level examination by 19 September 1991 are eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks.
6. Candidates should appear in their Post – Graduation subject or a related subject if their subject is not covered in the list of NET subjects.
7. No need to send certificates/documents during registration, but candidates must ensure their eligibility.
8. Post-graduate diploma/certificate holders should verify the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate with recognised Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
Reservation Policy for UGC-NET :
1. Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates : 15% of the seats.
2. Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates : 7.5% of the seats.
3. Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates : 27% of the seats as per the Central List.
4. General-Economically Weaker Sections (General-EWS) candidates : 10% of the seats.
5. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates with 40% or more disability : 5% of the seats in the above-mentioned categories.
Instructions for UGC-NET 2024 :
i. Performance in both papers of UGC-NET determines eligibility for ‘Assistant Professor’ or ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’.
ii. Candidates qualifying exclusively for Assistant Professor are not considered for JRF.
iii. Candidates must indicate in the Application Form whether they are applying for ‘Assistant Professor’ or ‘Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor’.
iv. Those qualifying for JRF can pursue research in their post-graduation subject or a related one and are eligible for Assistant Professor roles.
v. JRF awardees may receive fellowship under various schemes and can selected for full-time research work by universities/IITs/Institutions.
vi. The offer is valid for three years from the date of issue of JRF Award Letter.
vi. Exemptions:
NET/SET/SLET remain the minimum eligibility for Assistant Professor recruitment.
UGC regulations and amendments govern exemptions from NET/SET/SLET.
Candidates passing UGC/CSIR/JRF examination before 1989 are exempt from NET.
vii. SET candidates:
Those clearing SET accredited by UGC for Assistant Professor before June 1, 2002, are exempt from NET and eligible to apply nationwide.
Those passing SET from June 1, 2002, onwards can apply for Assistant Professor posts only in the state where they cleared their SET.
Following Documents to Carried to the Test Centre :
- Printed copy of Admit Card downloaded from NTA website.
- One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) for pasting on the specific space in the Attendance Sheet at Centre during the Examination.
- Any one of the authorized photo IDs (must original, valid, and non-expired):
a. PAN card
b. Driving License
c. Voter ID
d. Passport
e. Aadhaar Card (With photograph)
f. Aadhaar Enrolment No
g. Ration Card
h. Ensure that the name on the photo identification matches the name as shown on the Admit Card.

Important Points to Note about UGC-NET :
- Ensure to provide complete postal address with PIN Code for further correspondence.
- Use own e-mail address and Mobile Number in the Online Application Form as communication may sent through e-mail or SMS.
- Do not provide the postal address, Mobile Number, or e-mail ID of Coaching Centre in the Online Application Form.
- Apply ‘online’ for UGC-NET June 2024 as offline applications will not accepted.
- Access the NTA official website ugcnet.nta.nic.in for online submission of application.
- Once submitted successfully, the Online Application Form cannot withdrawn.
- Applications of candidates not meeting the eligibility criteria will rejected.
- Only one Application Form should submitted by each candidate to avoid cancellation of candidature.
- No change in the Application Form will entertained after the closing of the correction window.
- Candidates will given a chance to correct/modify/edit some particulars of the Application Form online after submission.
- Choose examination centres carefully as no changes will allowed once the application is submitted.
- Selection in the test is provisional, subject to meeting eligibility criteria for admission.
- Providing incorrect information or false identity will lead to penal action as per the law.
- Confirmation page of Online Application Form does not need to sent to NTA, but candidates should retain certain documents for future correspondence:
- At least four printouts of the Confirmation Page of Online Application Form.
- Proof of fee paid.
- 6 to 8 passport size photographs (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form).
- Ensure the name on the photo identification matches the name on the Admit Card. If there’s a name change due to events like marriage, provide relevant documents at the time of the exam (Marriage Certificate / Divorce Decree / Legal Name Change Document).
